Couriers will benefit from Vehicle scrapping scheme

The vehicle replacement scheme announced by the government in the recent 2009 UK budget, could have real benefits for the Courier industry. The government will pay £2,000 toward the cost of your new vehicle when trading in a vehicle of 10 years old or more. This will be beneficial to owner operators and small businesses in the Courier sector, as the scheme also applies to commercial vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes. The discount on new vehicles will be funded 50/50 between government and vehicle manufacturers.

Courier van drivers are struggling in the current economic climate, so any assistance with replacing older vehicles is very welcome. This will result in cleaner more environmentally friendly vehicles being used on this countries roads by UK couriers. In addition to help with the purchase of a new vehicle, during May 2009 iQuote Insurance are offering savings of up to 40% on a Courier Insurance policy. So in addition to help with buying your new van, you could also save money on your Courier Insurance.

The vehicle scrap scheme is set to run until either March 2010, or when the Government funding has all been spent – whichever comes first. To qualify for the scheme there are two criteria to be fulfilled, firstly your vehicle must be over 10 years old and secondly you must have been the registered keeper for at least 1 year. A similar scheme to the UK example has been running in Germany and has seen a significant rise in new vehicle sales.
